The Los Alamos Historical Document Retrieval and Assessment (LAHDRA) Project is assembling pieces of Los Alamos National Laboratory's history to evaluate releases of materials that had the potential to cause off-site health hazards.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Public Meeting of the Study Team for the Los Alamos Historical Document Retrieval and Assessment Project - Wednesday, July 23, 2008

NOW AVAILABLE: Video Clips are now available that include excerpts from our July 2007 meeting on the two topics that were of most interest to attendees:

What we have learned about early airborne plutonium releases from Los Alamos Facilities (19 minutes, .wmv format)

What we have learned about the Trinity Test and public exposures that resulted (18 minutes, .wmv format).

Interim Report of the Los Alamos Historical Document Retrieval and Assessment (LAHDRA) Project V5
(updated March 2007)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is conducting this project to systematically review all available documents related to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) operations and identify records that contribute information about releases of chemicals and radionuclides from the site between 1943 and the present. Scientists from ChemRisk, contractor to CDC, are performing the document retrieval and assessment. The project team has access to LANL records that is unprecedented for an independent group studying potential off-site health hazards. Products of the project include:

bullet summary of historical operations
bullet listing and ranking of materials released off site
bullet bibliographic database of relevant documents and interviews
bullet copies of those documents made available in a local reading room

After this project is completed, CDC will work with LANL stakeholders to determine whether the information warrants a detailed investigation of potential public exposures from any LANL operations.
