Bob Burns has over ten years experience in laboratory management
and consulting in radiation dosimetry, radiation transport and shielding,
radiation metrology, and instrumentation. He has been with Shonka
Research Associates since 1993. Bob was responsible for estimation
of radionuclide inventories for RaLa processing activities conducted
at X-10 from 1944-1956 for the Oak Ridge Dose Reconstruction Project.
This task included modeling neutron flux distributions in the X-10
and Hanford production reactors and fuel slugs, in addition to the
fission product inventory calculations for processed fuel. It also
included uncertainty analyses. Bob was a document analyst for Phase
I of the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory Environmental Dose
Reconstruction Project. His responsibilities included identifying
documents relevant to the dose reconstruction effort in the areas
of radioactive and chemical releases to various environmental pathways.
Bob has provided support in two litigation cases involving releases
of radioactive materials from nuclear facilities. The support has
been in the areas of source term development, uncertainty analysis
and dose reconstruction. He has also performed radiation dose assessments
to consider the impact of releasing materials containing residual
radioactivity from nuclear facilities.
